Moving day for the chickens

The birds were getting far too smelly so we moved them from the house to the shed.  Then, they were getting far too adventurous and jumping out of the box into the shed.  We committed our morning to chicken moving day.  The chickens' feathers are not quite fully in yet, but we figure the weather is nice enough right now and their house can be closed and has a heat lamp, so we should have no problem keeping them warm enough until they are fully feathered.

T and M worked very hard to fill the coop and the house with shavings -they absolutely loved this job as you can see from the pictures.  The chickens were happy to be out in the yard while we put on the finishing touches.

We are pretty sure they adore their new home -there were lots of dust baths, sleeping in the sun and chasing each other going on once they settled in.  We left the door to the coop open and the chicks went into the yard and back into their coop at leisure.  I noticed they love to come out but don't like to stray too far from home.

Other things we've observed:  they are eating a lot more grass now and Jo Jo continues to exhibit rooster like behaviour.  He is often exerting power and control over the other chickens -jumps on them, pushes out his chest, bosses around.

Check out the last picture which shows the feeder Loic made.  Thank goodness.  Our little chick feeder had to be filled 5 times a day they are eating so much now.

All of us can't get enough of watching them -such content, industrious animals.
