Pinnacle Lake

So... T and I have taking our stalking to a whole new level! We were debating what to do for the weekend and were going to do a quick canoe trip near Little Fort but then a bunch of friends wanted to join in on the weekend so for logistics we decided to go hiking. What better place to explore than one we had just read about on a local blog. In the end, everyone bailed and Tess and I went up alone. What a fun place. We drove up Friday night and hiked in at dusk, requiring headlamps for the last .5 hr. We debated if we were actually on the trail for the last section along the creek and walked back and forth twice before deciding there was no alternate route and finally finding the flagging. Then we reach the plateau and concluded we must be close to the lake so we pitched our tent. We woke up the next morning right next to the lake, with the sun just starting to hit the peaks. We set off scrambling up one of the N gullies and pretty much matched the gps track of Brenda and Andrew (I will get mine up soon). The views are spectacular and we had hot sun all day. I reached the large middle peak to sign my name next in line to our fellow adventurers. This is when the adventure really started. We ran the scree and then got the foolish idea that the treed slope in the middle above the lake would probably be manageable. So, we skipped going down the gully and began descending amidst the small trees. To keep it short, we got cliffed out several times, sketched out by wet angled rock, but finally found a route! (Tess was calm the whole way.....jk). Follow but a polar bear dip and some Annies it was a sweet day!

Anyway due to the quickly dropping temperatures and freezing nights we decided to head out early sunday morning, and made it home by 10:30 to fulfill our craving for buttermilk pancakes...hmmmmm! I would definitely recommend this one along with Twin Lakes to the North. Check out the pics.
