It was a bit of slow start to the summer racing season but this fall we have picked up big time! Tess was determined to fit in one triathlon before the season was over. Of course being a new mom meant the training hadn't been structured or even there sometimes but she absolutely killed it!
Tess woke up race day after a terrible sleepless night in the Summerland municiple campground. Suffering from a bout of the local plague and a couple Taio feeds left her feeling a bit beaten down race morning. After some minor deliberations she committed to racing and her and Michelle (Another kick ass new mom!) left for transition and marking while Walter and I (kick ass dads!) broke camp and entertained the little ones.
Race started off well however she didn't feel super until the last quarter of the swim. Felt she could have done better but was satisfied. Got on the bike and went hard but mindful of the run ahead. Being a sprint tri it's only a 20 k bike and 5 k run so it is always a hammerfest. Bike time was fast considering the lack of time on the roadie this summer. Including the transition time into her bike split she was still over 30km/h. I wasn't totally sure those little legs would be able to break that mark! Quick bike to run transition had her catching some racers and setting a good pace on the run. Passed a couple more racers and came into the finish line with a 24:48 including the transition split.
Total race time of 1:18:40!! For a stellar 1st place in her age group!
Props to Michelle who posted another wicked time of 1:16:17 and 3rd in her age group!
Not to bad for new mom's with babies under 6 months!
