Cookies!!!! Cookies!!! (and family too)

The year of the loppet. With backcountry snow less than stellar and avy cons not great Tess and I (with the encouragement of Yannick) have done some amazing loppets in the Okanagan and beyond. It started with the great Salmon Arm race that was 36 km for me and 18 for Tess. Definitely the longest race for both of us and it was a great time. Over 300 skiers and a great course. We then hit up the Nickleplate loppet down near penticton which was nothing short of spectacular (and of course painfull!).

Feb 28th we topped it off with the Kananaskis Ski Marathon up at Pocaterra. Tess, Yannick and I drove up and met up with both sets of parents, Evan and Kirsty and the Poetker's. Race day started cold but nice Alberta blue sky and one of the nicest race courses imaginable. 42 km, one single lap, deep in the rockies. I had an awesome race, even though the glide on the cold snow wasn't great. Tess did the 24 km and as always was chasing down the full time athletes. She has improved greatly over the course of this season.

On Sunday everyone grabbed their snowshoes (or rented) and we went out to Johnston Canyon. It was a fun hike about though snowshoes were a little overkill as it was quite packed down. We found some fresh on the creek and later on an alternate route back to the car. It was neat to see the waterfalls that have been in so many kayaking magazines and movies (world record for tallest waterfall at 98 ft). Another blue bird day with great company!
